Zapata Elementary students and staff had a fantastic time celebrating Read Across America! Students from Pre-K to 5th grade participated in exciting reading challenges across grade levels, fostering a love for reading. Zapata Elementary Celebrates Dr. Seuss' Read Across America Week Zapata Elementary celebrated Dr. Seuss' Read Across America Week with enthusiasm and creativity, bringing the magic of reading to life! Students and staff joined in the fun by dressing up in their best *Cat in the Hat* attire, wearing wacky socks, and sporting green shirts in honor of *Green Eggs and Ham*. The week was filled with excitement, with everyone coming together to promote the love of reading. Throughout the week, friendly reading competitions took place between grade levels, encouraging students to read more and earn small treats as rewards for their efforts. The challenge brought out the competitive spirit in all, with each grade level vying to read the most pages! In addition to the fun activities, every student received a special Dr. Seuss pencil and eraser, generously provided by our librarian, Mrs. Lumbreras, to remind them of the importance of reading. Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students also received small treats to encourage and celebrate their participation in reading activities. It was a week full of reading, creativity, and joy, reminding students that reading can be a fun and rewarding adventure. Staff and students got “ducked” at Emiliano Zapata Elementary! Teachers, support personnel, cafeteria ladies, and custodians got randomly ducked throughout the week! Our 💯% attendance class, Mrs. Salazar’s 2nd grade class got ducked with a special treat! It was a happy ducking experience! ☺️😀

🌟 Zapata Elementary 5th grade girls had an amazing time celebrating Girls in STEM at the La Joya ISD Girls STEM Event! 🌟 They explored various science, math, and engineering booths hosted by school librarians, dyslexia and reading specialists, as well as science and technology administrators. 🎉 Zapata Elementary’s Future Ready, Learning Ready Summit & Open House was a huge success! 🎉 We had an amazing turnout, with parents engaging in various activities. Mr. Pepito and his choir students wowed the crowd with a performance, while Mrs. Lumbrera’s book giveaway booth provided parents with new reading materials. Our counselor, coach, and art teacher shared valuable information at their booths, and our teachers provided insights into student progress in the classroom. Zapata Elementary kicked off Read Across America in a big way with a special guest, Ms. Tamara Albury, Deputy Chief of School Leadership! She joined Mrs. Lumbreras, our librarian, for a fantastic read-aloud session with our 2nd grade class, reading Oh, the Places You'll Go! by Dr. Seuss. Ms. Albury also visited classrooms in PK, 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades, where students had the chance to interact, share, and get moving during the readings. It was a day full of fun, books, and excitement.
