Posted Date: 01/22/2018
The week of January 26 to January 28, 2018, Emiliano Zapata Elementary gladly accepted “The Great Kindness Challenge” encouraged by La Joya ISD. Administrators, teachers, the librarian, the counselor, the music teacher, P.E. coaches, students and staff came together and participated on this positive proactive bullying prevention initiative. Grade levels from Pre-K to 5th grade did activities that encourage kindness between each other. We had students from 3rd, 4th and 5th grade reading aloud to Kindergarten students. 3rd graders offered their help in demonstrating Pre-Kinder students how to tie their shoe laces. 1st grade students went outside the campus and picked up all the trash they could find. Pre-Kinder students showed their appreciation by passing out kind cards. Students at the library had the opportunity to write kind things they did or received by others. Their cards and chain of kindness will be placed at the library for students to add year round. P.E. coaches, the music teacher and counselor encourage students to pass kindness year round with music, counseling and daily activities.
